Formation of Delta Kappa Chapter
In early 1953, the Grand Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi authorized the Milwaukee Alumni Chapter to organize a charter for Delta Kappa Chapter at Wisconsin State College (now UWM). Despite the designation of one particular college, it was a clearly and openly understood gentlemen's agreement (with Grand Chapter) that the new Charter would be operated citywide.
In the fall of the 1953-1954 school years, Milwaukee Alumni Polemarch Horace Edwards charged Brothers Ralph Jefferson and David Ford with the mission to form a Scrollers Club. This was a "no-brainer" because Brother Jefferson, Youth Work Secretary at the Northside YMCA, had an established, working relationship with so many of the high schoolers; and Brother Ford was already very well known among the young-adults from his role as the volunteer coach of the Northside Hi-Y basketball team.
Therefore it was a straightforward and routine exercise to establish a working network within the young college-crowd and organize a Scrollers Club. On February 14, 1954, five young men were initiated and added to the existing list of undergraduate "special members" in the Milwaukee alumni Chapter. When combined, that total comprised the listing of the Charter Members of Delta Kappa Chapter.
Today Delta Kappa Chapter is active on the campuses of Marquette University, University Of Wisconsin- Milwaukee, University Of Wisconsin- Parkside, and Cardinal Stritch University.
